Get Your Rear in Gear - PRL sponsors Colon Caner Coalition Run

PRL once again proudly sponsors the Colon Cancer Coalition's annual Get Your Rear In Gear 5K run to raise awareness of colon cancer and the importance of screenings. This event was well attended by colon cancer survivors, family and friends of survivors and decedents, and the medical community. Survivors shared touching stories and critical advice to "check your poop!"

Please make an appointment to see your doctor if you are experiencing any unusual bowel symptoms, including but not limited to a change in bowel habits (such as constipation or diarrhea), loss of weight, or blood in the stool. If indicated, your doctor will recommend a colonoscopy. During the colonoscopy, your doctor will take a biopsy of anything that appears abnormal. The biopsies are sent to a pathologist, who will determine the cause of the abnormality (eg. benign, infectious, autoimmune process, malignant) by looking at the biopsy under a microscope.

Pathologists work as a team with clinicians and endoscopists, and play a key part in helping to diagnose the cause of any abnormality, which in turn helps determine the appropriate treatment for the patient. Pathology Reference Lab is proud to be a part of your team, supporting both patients and clinicians alike.
